I’ve been homeschooling since my eldest son (now almost 1) kindergarten. Like many homeschool families, I had concerns about the education and environment of our local public school and affordable private options weren’t locally available. Honestly, I also wasn’t sure he was ready for 1st grade socially, even though he was advanced academically. He also struggled with sensory issues and was a good head smaller than his classmates. Truth be told, I was terrified to homeschool and felt totally inadequate. For that first year, I was only acting in obedience to what I felt God had laid on my heart.

Fast forward to today, I’m now homeschooling my 3rd son, and now that we’ve found our groove, we all love it! The only thing that has been missing is the community we found among the many homeschool co-op’s, hybrid schools and playgroups where we lived in Texas. We quickly discovered that all the great homeschool options here in the lowcountry were an hour or more drive from us, making forming everyday relationships difficult. From the time we moved to Beaufort 3 years ago, our family has longed to find that community again and God placed it on my heart to be a part of creating that.

It took three years of prayer and research before God made our path clear. In April of 2024, I was made aware of the Port Royal Baptist church location through a friend. What started as a dream was suddenly a real possibility. A few meetings later, my husband and I prayed and decided to take the leap and make Live Oaks Academy a reality. Our family is so excited to launch Live Oaks Academy for the 2024/2025 academic year! It’s our desire to create a community of like-minded families who love the Lord, love pouring into their children and forging strong family bonds. It’s our hope that this community will become like a family to support and encourage one another, form friendships and just do life together as we grow mighty oaks of righteousness for the Lord.
